As a part of its ‘Skills Development’ Programme, Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) organized a workshop on “Skills required for Media and Retail Industry” at ITFT Corporate Office, Chandigarh. Students and faculty from various B-Schools of the tricity attended the programme. Ms. Poonam Batth, a former Senior Journalist, now Regional Head, Bharti Walmart, conducted the workshop.
Taking route to personal experiences Poonam Batth covered wide range of beats from crime to judiciary, health, politics, business, travel and tourism industry. She enumerated how she covered high profile cases for Chandigarh Newsline. She exhorted the audience to be bold, daring and focused and display personal integrity of highest order while discharging their duties as journalist.
While talking about her experience in the retail industry, Poonam said that retail giants such as Walmart, TESCO, Carrefour and Netro Cash-n-Carry retail chain of UK, France and Germany are all set to come to India and are promising people of much better living at lower prices. She said that Walmart is amongst first few players who have started their operations and now have planned to go PAN-India. Three Walmart stores have already been opened in Amritsar, Zirakpur and recently in Jalandhar.
Ms. Poonam said that managing giant retail outlets is skilled job. One has to be skilled in Supply Chain Management, Merchandising, especially, Visual Merchandising and Point of Sales management. She gave some tips to the students of the Tricity.
Later she answered to the various questions from the audience.
